Toor Dhal Dosa

Breakfast is a very important meal of the day, a protein rich breakfast can do wonders for children and us! This is a nutritious breakfast that keeps us full till lunch time. I pack these dosas for kids lunch box too.



Rice – 1 cup

Toor Dhal – 1 cup

Urad dhal – 1/2 cup

Fresh Coconut a few pieces

Dried Red Chillies – 4

Dhania/Corander seeds – 1/2 table spoon

Jeera/Cumin seeds 1/2 table spoon

Salt as required.

Grated carrot – 1/4 cup

Chopped coriander leaves – 1/4 cup

Chopped spinach – 1/4 cup


Method Of Preparation:

Wash rice and dhal a couple of times.

Pour enough water and soak it for 3 to 4 hours.

Add coconut, red chillies, dhania and  jeera and then grind smooth.

Add salt, and other vegetables and mix well.

Add water to required consistency.

Dosa batter is ready, this can be used immediately to make dosas. No need of fermentation.


To make Dosa:

Heat a dosa pan.

When hot, pour a laddle full of batter and spread into a circle

Add few drops of oil and roast on both sides until crispy and brown.

Serve hot with any chutney of your choice.

My boys love to eat it with plain yogurt and I am happy about sending them to school with good breakfast and probiotics that they will get with the yoghurt .

I ate them with kiwi chutney and that tasted yummy too!
