Nariyal Ke Ladoo – Recipe you can make with Kids!

Come Diwali and the house is full of sweetness.

This is a recipe for a quick sweet/dessert you can make.  These ladoos need just 20 mins of preparation time. They are made of desiccated coconut.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of desiccated coconut/ grated coconut
  • 2/3 cups of cane sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 crushed elaichi/ cardamoms

Recipe:

  • Add sugar to water to make it completely soluble
  • On a low flame, boil the sugar solution until the solution is thickened. Continue cooking on a low flame until you get one thread consistency.
  • Add coconut and crushed cardamom to the solution
  • Switch off the flame and let the mixture cool down a bit. Make some ladoos while its still warm. Place almonds on them for garnishing.

Another Variation to this Recipe:

These laddoos can stay in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. The same ladoos can be done using condensed milk too. Here is the recipe :

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of desiccated coconut/ grated coconut
  • 2/3 cups of cane sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 crushed elaichi/ cardamoms
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • ¾ cup condensed sweetened milk
  • Almonds/ cashews or pista

Recipe:

  • Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and add desiccated coconut to it.
  • Add condensed milk to it in a low flame and heat the mixture stirring continuously.
  • Add crushed cardamom to the mixture
  • Switch off the flame and let the mixture cool down a bit. Make some ladoos while its still warm. Place almonds on them.
  • Since these ladoos will look different as these will be more wet and sticky, you can roll them over a plate of dry coconut
  • Once it cools slightly, grease your hands with a little ghee and make even sized balls/ladoos out of it. Delicious Coconut laddu is ready. You can engage your kids also in making these. Ensure that the mixture is warm before allowing them to shape ladoos.

Prepare this easy and quick Diwali sweet and enjoy with your family and friends!
